The lecture deals with the phenomena of the representation of the self in the world. While self-portraits are considered an exploration of the unknown self, the modern media enable previously unseen psychological and social manifestations: Selfies with the mobile phone or tablet seem like attempts to satisfy an enormous inner hunger in the search for the self. Karin Dannecker examines old and new as well as the different landscapes of portrait art in art therapy and gives case studies.
The lecture is aimed at art therapists, psychologists, medical professionals, other health professionals and the interested public.
- Professor Karin Dannecker heads the master's degree in art therapy at the Berlin-Weissensee School of Art and can fall back on many years of experience as an art therapist in a psychiatric clinic where she still works today. She is the author of numerous specialist publications, leads projects to research the effectiveness of the art therapeutic approach and is a regular speaker at national and international conferences. Karin Dannecker completed her art therapy studies in New York with Edith Kramer, one of the pioneers of the profession.
